Vehicle Donations from CRC Aid Bakersfield Homeless Center and Taft Union High School

Clients of the Bakersfield Homeless Center (BHC) will now be able to get to work a little easier courtesy of California Resources Corporation (CRC). To better support BHC’s vital services throughout Kern County, CRC has donated seven trucks to assist with BHC’s job development program aimed at providing homeless individuals and families with support that leads to lasting success.

CRC also donated two trucks to Taft Union High School’s Advanced Auto Repair program to give enrolled students hands-on experience. Students gain knowledge by making all repairs under the guidance of a fully credentialed instructor who has trained and worked in the industry. Once all issues have been detected and repaired, the trucks are sold to raise money for the Auto Repair curriculum. Proceeds from the sales are used for various items such as field trips, updating equipment and scholarships, all benefitting Taft Union High School students.

The Advanced Auto Repair course is part of Taft Union High School District’s Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) that provides programs that meet today’s job demands and the careers of the future.  Under this program, it is important to not only provide students with theory-based instruction, but also the opportunities to apply that knowledge through hands-on skills applications.

“CRC always considers the needs of the local communities where our employees live and work,” said Shawn Kerns, CRC’s Executive Vice President of Operations and Engineering.  “For us, it’s about giving students and organizations the opportunities to achieve their goals and CRC believes it’s our role to support their efforts any way we can.”
